East Lee County High presents an 'Evening of the Arts'
East Lee County High School will host an "Evening of the Arts" from 6-7:30 p.m. Jan 17 at 715 Thomas Sherwin Ave.
There will be displays of student art work, music, drama and a Poetry Out Loud contest to see who will represent the school at the state competition in Tallahassee.
Parents will have an opportunity to sign up for an English class during the event to improve their language skills. Students will be available to read to young children who attend class with their parents.
Course set for pilot ground school
The private pilot ground school will hold its winter course from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 17 through May 9, at Cypress Lake High School.
The cost is $135 plus text. The course is 45 hours long total. For additional information, call Ed Fink at 489-0443.
FGCU presents 'PUNO MoCA: A Project by Cesar Cornejo'
The Art Galleries of Florida Gulf Coast University present "PUNO MoCA: A Project by Cesar Cornejo" from Jan. 18-March 14 in FGCU's Main Gallery.
An internationally known sculptor and activist, Cornejo's art addresses socio-political issues with particular focus in his native Peru and the way it translates into international contexts.
Opening events on Jan. 18 include a musical performance by the Bower School of Music students at 3:15 p.m. in the Tobe Recital Hall; a gallery talk hosted by WGCU's John Davis at 4 p.m. in the Tobe Recital Hall; and a gallery reception from 5-7 p.m. in the Main Gallery of the Arts Complex.
Tickets are required for the performance and gallery talk portions.
