By Staff | Jan 17, 2013

A Fort Myers man who apparently rode a bicycle into the path of a vehicle and was ejected died from his injuries earlier this week at the hospital.

Scott Clifford Van Deusen, 23, of 8099 College Parkway, Fort Myers, died Monday at Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was taken after the accident.

At about 5:23 p.m. Jan. 10, Van Deusen was traveling northbound on Del Prado Boulevard South on the sidewalk on a Shimano bicycle, when he came to the intersection at Coral Point Drive, according to Cape police officials.

He continued northbound through the intersection using the crosswalk, at which point he was hit by a vehicle traveling westbound on Coral Point. The front of the vehicle struck the right side of the bike, ejecting Van Deusen.

He was trauma-alerted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses reported that the driver of the vehicle, Diana L. Scalise, 53, of 1319 S.E. 16th Terrace, had a “solid green light” at the time of the collision.

Scalise was not injured in the accident.

There were no signs or clues of impairment playing a part in the crash, according to police officials.
