Really enjoyed holiday dinner by Rotary

By Staff | Feb 6, 2013

To the editor:

It’s been a while now but I wanted to write about the Christmas dinner at the St. Raphael Church. I was invited to the dinner by two members of the church. The dinner is sponsored by and prepared by the Rotary Club and volunteers.

It was so well organized; it was difficult to believe the dinner was held in a very nice, very clean room. There were long tables covered with clear, very nice table cloths and the tables are very long.

At the tables, the silverware and napkins were place on the table before each chair.

The food line moved quickly and efficiently because each food item was served by a different person. There were two kinds of meat, mashed potatoes, spring beans, gravy, yams, cranberry sauce, bread, rolls and butter and pie and it all was very delicious.

I could only eat a third of what they served me. A very nice lady said, “I will get you a doggy bag.” I said “I have a cat,” and she said, “The doggy bag will work.”

Mike, a volunteer, said it was around mid-afternoon and they had fed more than 600 people and there were 40 minutes yet to go.

Volunteers walked about serving water, tea and coffee.

Thank you very much to the Rotary Club of Lehigh Acres for the best Christmas dinner I ever had. And thanks to St. Raphael Church for providing the parish hall for it to be held in.
