The Florida Lung & Sleep Associates Laboratory has received reaccreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) based on results of a recent on-site inspection as part of the CAP’s accreditation programs.

Dr. Alaa El-Gendy, the facility’s director, was told of this national recognition and congratulated for the excellence of the services being provided.

Florida Lung & Sleep Associates Laboratory is one of more than 7,000 CAPaccredited facilities worldwide.

“Maintaining our CAP accreditation shows that we are committed to high quality care through evidence based processes,” El-Gendy said.

The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, as being equal-to or more-stringent-than government’s own inspection program.

During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualification,

equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.

Florida Lung & Sleep Associates was established in Lehigh Acres and is the leading independent community provider of pulmonary and sleep services since 2002. It is committed to providing premier, quality, and cost-effective diagnostic and therapeutic services to its patients, El-Gendy said.
