Teen killed in afternoon crash on Pondella Road

At 1:44 p.m., Thursday, March 7, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a single-vehicle crash. The incident occurred at 663 Pondella Road, North Fort Myers. Deputies responded to the scene.

According to a report from the LCSO, upon arrival, deputies found a silver-colored, four-door, 2002 Ford Focus had crashed into a concrete pole.

The report indicates that the driver was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced deceased at 2:36 p.m. as a result of the crash.

Due to the nature of the incident, deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit were assigned to continue the investigation.

Preliminary information reveals the driver, 18-year-old Cynthia Ray of 8467 Breeze Drive, North Fort Myers, was travelling west on Pondella Road. While crossing North Cleveland Avenue at a high rate of speed, her vehicle rotated sideways and the driver’s side door collided with a concrete pole, according to the LCSO.

No other vehicles or persons are believed to have been involved.
