Florida Native Plant Society announces speakers
The Coccoloba Chapter, Florida Native Plant Society will meet at 7 p.m. March 14 at the Rutenberg Park Eco-Living Center in Fort Myers. Social time and information corner at 6:30 p.m.
Doug Caldwell, of the Collier County Extension Office, will speak on the non-native spiraling white fly and other bugs that may impact native plants.

FEMA workers to talk about storm aid
The General Women's Club of Lehigh Acres will meet at 1 p.m. March 15 at Faith Lutheran Church on Leeland Heights Boulevard.
The speaker for the day will be Amos Johnson, husband of Bunnie Johnson. They both work for FEMA, and Amos will talk about what FEMA did for the people of Storm Sandy and what they did.
There will also be a book sale, so bring any books.
Car show to feature antiques, classics
The First Community Congregational will host a car show from 4:30 to 8 p.m. March 15 at 200 Leland Heights Blvd.
Antique and classic cars from 1924 to the 1980s will be featured. Food will be available to purchase, and there will also 50/50 drawings and raffles with prizes.

The Fort Myers Elk's Lodge 1288 will host a St. Patty's Day party on March 16.

Lehigh Concert Band to hold free concert
The Lehigh Concert Band will perform at 3 p.m. March 17 at Faith Lutheran Church, at 705 Leeland Heights Blvd.
Enjoy the sound of music with a St. Patrick's Day theme, including Irish tunes to sing along with, as well as the standard show tunes. The event is free, though, donations will be accepted.
The band members are retired teachers and military, as well as part-time musicians from all walks of life, who get together to have a good time.

Children's Hospital Diamond Dinner tickets on sale
Tickets are on sale for the Boston Red Sox Children's Hospital Diamond Dinner at 6 p.m. March 19 at JetBlue Park.
The event offers an interactive panel discussion with Red Sox players and management and the chance to bid on auction items, like hand-signed memorabilia.
All funds raised will be matched dollar for dollar by a philanthropist. Proceeds will benefit the construction of a new Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida.
The event is presented by Outback Steakhouse of Fort Myers and hosted by The Boston Red Sox.
Tickets are $50 or $375 for a table of eight. Children under 10 are $20 per ticket. Game day tickets are not included in the price.

'Inspirations' art show seeking submissions
Visual artists are invited to submit up to two framed or gallery-wrapped pieces of art for the first annual "Inspirations" art show to be held April 14 at the Majestic Golf Course, at 350 Homestead Road S.
Hosted by the Arts of the Inland, this is a judged show. Art mediums that will be accepted are: watercolor, mixed media, pen and ink, oil, acrylic, pastels and charcoals. The work must be original and completed within the last two years.
The fee is $10 per art work for Arts of the Inland members and Art Council of Southwest Florida members; the non-member's fee is $20 per art work.

Fashion show set
The General Women's Club of Lehigh Acres will host its annual fashion show April 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Colonial Country Club, at 9175 Independence Way, Fort Myers.
This year's theme is "Fashion in Paradise." Fashions will be provided by Anthony's of Fort Myers.

Proceeds from the event will go to the General Women's Club Scholarship fund, which helps young women in Lehigh Acres fund their education.
Lee County Community Band to perform
The Lee County Community Band will perform April 7 at Cape Coral High School, at 2300 Santa Barbara Blvd. The event is free of charge; donations are accepted.
Band members are musicians from all walks of life - career musicians, amateurs and folks renewing skills from years past - who reside in Lee, Collier, and Charlotte counties.
The band rehearses from 7-9 p.m. Thursdays at St. Michael's Lutheran School in Fort Myers; new members are welcome.

General Woman's Club to award scholarships
The General Woman's Club of Lehigh Acres will award several $500 scholarships to single parents with minor children living at home.
Applicants must be a resident of Lehigh Acres and enrolled in continuing education classes at an accredited college, university or technical school.
There is no pre-printed application form. The guidelines are:
- Resident of Lehigh Acres: Send proof of residence, such as a utility bill or rent receipt.
- Provide street address and telephone number where you can be contacted; P.O Boxes will not be accepted.
- Single parent with minor children living at home.
- Name of college, university or technical school in which you are currently enrolled.
- Brief biography that includes your area of study.
Application must be received no later than April 20.

Mom's Morning Out program for families
Mom's Morning Out will be held May 10 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Alva Community Center, at 21471 N. River Road, Alva.
The program provides supervision for preschoolers ages 3-5 so mother can have a few hours to themselves. Participating children must be potty trained.
It includes inside games, play time, short movies, snack, playground, arts and crafts, and fun time with music.
Cost is $10 to register.
