To the editor:
The U.S. Majority Leader, Senator Harry Reid, proposes to vote in April on a bill that will not include any ban on assault weapons or high-capacity magazines. Polling of American voters to date indicates they favor the two above items to be included in any gun safety legislation.
Reid's bill has not been clearly defined other than "some kind of gun-control bill" that will pass in the U.S. Senate. The American voters must convince their respective U.S. senators that the people will accept nothing less.
Apparently, the pressure from the National Rifle Association (NRA), threatening primary election opposition and withdrawal of monetary support, has succeeded in intimidating U.S. Senate and House members.
Newtown voters expressed total disappointment.
President Barack Obama expressed regrets.
Vice President Joe Biden hoped for much more.
"We the people" are expecting more from our elected officials. It is my hope, that the people's voice will be heard. Please contact Senators Nelson and Rubio. The NRA cannot win this time.
