Civic group to hold forum on rental rules

The Fort Myers Beach Civic Association will hold an open public forum today, April 24, at 4:30 p.m. in the Third Floor Community Room at the beach library.

There will be an open discussion on short-term rental regulations. Jessie Titas, a Realtor and broker, will discuss the issues against the regulations and Tom Babcock, a former councilman, will discuss issues for keeping the regulations.

The public will be allowed to ask questions and can bring forward any thoughts or concerns.

Junior League to host new member meeting

The Junior League of Fort Myers will host a new member information social from 6:30 to 8 p.m. April 25 in Room 125 at Nova Southeastern University, at 3650 Colonial Court, Fort Myers.

The league promotes voluntarism, helps develop the potential of women and improves the community. Women ages 21 and over who are interested in learning more are invited to attend.

Library offers class on vegetable gardening

A crash course in veggie gardening will be held April 27 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the East County Regional Library.

The free class will be taught by a Lee County Master Gardener volunteer who has been trained by the University of Florida/IFAS.

Free legal advice at 'Law in the Mall'

The County Bar Association, with Florida Rural Legal Services and Lee County Legal Aid Society, will conduct its free annual "Law in the Mall" event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 27 in the Dillard's courtyard at the Edison Mall, at 4125 Cleveland Ave. in Fort Myers.

Attorneys will be available to meet with individuals for free to answer legal questions on topics including, but not limited to, bankruptcy, civil, elder law, family law, landlord and tenant, criminal, real estate/condominium, and wills, probate and estate planning.

The public is advised to bring any relevant documents for meeting with an attorney.

Registration at 9:45 a.m.

Attorneys will also present four free one-hour seminars on legal topics impacting Lee County's citizens. Space is limited for each seminar to the first 30 people who register at the event desk that day.

Libertarian Party of Lee County to meet

The Libertarian Party of Lee County will meet May 1 from 7 to 8:45 p.m. in the Judge Landis/Useppa Room at the Shoeless Joe's restaurant at Bell Tower in South Fort Myers.

Dinner is served from 7 to 7:45 p.m. and is self-pay. The topic of discussion - "What is the proper role of government?" - will be presented at 7:45 p.m.

Climate change, current status topic of meeting

The League of Women Voters of Lee County will meet May 4 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Hilton Garden Inn, at 12600 University Drive, Fort Myers. Registration and networking at 9:30 a.m.; program at 10 a.m.

The topic of the meeting is "Climate Change: Where Are We Now?" The keynote speaker is James Beever, a principal planner for the Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council.

Beever is an expert in natural resources and climate change in Southwest Florida. His responsibilities include implementing the environmental planning review for the SWFRPC.

Meeting is open to the public.

Community Plan Workshop planned

A Lehigh Acres Community Plan Workshop is scheduled from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. May 4 at the East County Regional Library, at 881 Gunnery Road N. The topic is "Kickoff of the Lehigh Acres Planning and Design Study."

Golf club to host Kentucky Derby Day

The Majestic Golf Club is hosting a Kentucky Derby Day starting at 4 p.m. May 4.

There will be a buffet and open bar for a nominal fee. There will also be a reverse raffle, a wide-screen TV set to watch the derby on and miniature horse racing.

African Violet Club announces plant sale

The Gulf-Edison African Violet Club will host its annual display and sale of African violets, gesneriads and other plants May 4 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sabal Springs Golf & Racquet Club, located on U.S. 41 in North Fort Myers.

Experienced growers will be on hand to answer questions, as well as give demonstrations. There will be planting accessories for sale.

Scholarship applications now being accepted

The Lehigh Regional Hospital Auxiliary will award several $500 scholarships to participants studying medical education.

Applications can be picked up at the information desk in the lobby of the Lehigh Regional Hospital, at 1500 Lee Blvd.

Applicants must be a Lehigh Acres resident. Applications must be entirely filled out with all attachments to qualify.

The deadline is May 10.

Program for mothers

Mom's Morning Out is May 10 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Alva Community Center, at 21471 N. River Road, Alva.

The program provides supervision for preschoolers ages 3-5 so mother can have a few hours to themselves. Participating children must be potty trained.

It includes inside games, play time, short movies, snack, playground, arts and crafts, and fun time with music.

Eagle to speak before Lee Republican women

The Lee Republican Women Federated will meet May 13 at the Hilton Garden Inn, at 12601 University Drive in Fort Myers. Social hour begins at 11:15 a.m., followed by lunch and a program.

The guest speaker will be Rep. Dane Eagle, of the Florida House of Representatives District 77.

Bonsai Society to host annual picnic, auction

The Bonsai Society of Southwest Florida will hold its annual picnic and auction May 18 at the Fort Myers-Lee County Garden Council's Center, at 2166 Virginia Ave., Fort Myers.

Sidewalk sales and viewing of auction items will begin at 10 a.m., with the auction of trees and related materials beginning at 11 a.m. A lunch buffet will follow.

There is no admission fee, and parking and the lunch are free.

Submit questions for county candidates

The public is invited to submit questions for Lee County commissioners and county staff to take under consideration and potentially use when they interview the future county manager.

The recruitment Web page was developed to provide the public with information about the search for a new county manager. It is now open for people who want to submit questions for the candidates.

The Lee County Board of County Commissioners is tentatively scheduled to interview the finalists in early June.

'Pickin' In The Park set

Musicians come together to perform during 'Pickin' In The Park from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays at the lodge by the lake at the rear of Veterans Park.
