Callahan earns excellence award

By Staff | Apr 24, 2013

Army Sgt. Sean M. Callahan received the Army’s Keith L. Ware Award for journalistic excellence.

The award and competition are named in memory of Army Maj. Gen. Keith L. Ward, former chief of public affairs. He received the Medal of Honor for serving in World War II and was killed in 1968 while commanding the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam.

A selection committee reviews and evaluates entries in news and print categories, as well as television news and radio broadcasting categories.

Callahan is a public affairs non-commissioned officer in charge assigned to the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. He has served in the military for 11 years.

Callahan is the son of Robert and Susan Callahan, of Lehigh Acres. He graduated in 2000 from Shelton High School in Connecticut and received an associate degree in 2007 from Thomas Edison State College, in Trenton, N.J.
