President’s budget will help middle class

April 24, 2013

To the editor:

The president's budget continues to support his plan to build a strong America and strengthen the middle class. This budget will continue the progress and recovery made in the past three years.

In the past four years, the deficit has been cut by $2.5 trillion. The president wants to reduce the deficit by $4 trillion with a plan for shared growth, taxes, entitlement reform and job growth.

With smart spending cuts and sensible reform to Medicare, entitlement and tax reform, by closing loopholes and deductions for the rich and corporate America, we can insure shared responsibility.

Jobs of the future will build new opportunities for the middle class and strengthen families and communities, promoting education which will build high-skilled jobs. This will create pathways to move low-income, low-skilled long-term unemployed to better paying jobs with critical skills to build long-term prosperity, ensuring that economic recovery reaches all Americans.

Republicans and Tea Party conservatives show a lack of leadership. They lack a plan and no vision for progress - the same old destructive rhetoric of Medicare vouchers, block grants for Medicaid, repeal ACA, replace social security. They propose growing the rich and military industrial complex.

They refuse to act as our infrastructure crumbles and the air and environment become more polluted. Their plan for energy is to grow big oil. Their plan for jobs is smaller government, so that the middle class working America can continue to be victimized. They have nothing new.

They are continuing as they did prior to and during the 2012 election, taking their orders from the same right wing organizations and political PACS with hopes to buy the election in 2014.

If you think things were bad in 2012, just wait until 2014 - 2012 was the most expensive election ever. The 2014 election promises to be a war.

The ALEC (American Legislative Elective Council), the PACS and the Koch brothers will use every means possible to gain power at the federal, as well as state, levels. More than 90 percent of Republican legislators at state and federal levels pledge to obey the will of these organizations.

Therefore, there can be little compromise and almost zero working for the people of America.
