The Cape Coral Police Department has made an arrest in Wednesday's early morning robbery, according to officials. Andrew James Ray Touchstone, 24, of 1141 S.W. 44th Terrace, was charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, grand theft auto and grand theft.

Touchstone remained at the Lee County Jail without bond Friday.

At 6:30 a.m., a woman was attempting to use the drive-thru ATM at the Bank of America at 926 Cape Coral Parkway E. As she was preparing to begin her transaction, Touchstone opened the passenger door and jumped into her car, according to officials. Touchstone demanded money from the woman.

The woman drove less than a block in an effort to get Touchstone to exit her car. He did not exit, instead he pulled out a box-cutter style knife and threatened the woman. Fearing for her life, she jumped out of the car. Touchstone then slid over into the driver's seat and drove off with the woman's car, officials reported.

Detectives viewed the surveillance camera photos from the ATM and believed the man to be Touchstone. The woman was able to positively identify Touchstone as the man who robbed her and stole her car.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office arrested Touchstone in Fort Myers on an unrelated warrant Wednesday and the CCPD was able to question him about the robbery. Touchstone reportedly confessed to robbing the woman and stealing her car to fuel his drug addiction.

"This was a brazen and violent daytime robbery where a truly innocent victim was targeted," Lt. Tony Sizemore spokesman for the Cape police, said. "These types of cases need to be solved quickly to ensure the peace of mind our residents have come to expect."
