ECWCD, employee receive recognition

The East County Water Control District and its community project specialist, Carla Ulakovic, were recognized at the Southwest Florida Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association’s 2013 Image Awards Ceremony for their public relations efforts.

The Local Image Awards competition is conducted annually to recognize outstanding public relations programs in Southwest Florida. Winners demonstrate the very best examples of innovation, planning and design.

Established in 1938, FPRA is the oldest public relations organization in the country. FPRA is dedicated to developing public relations practitioners, who, through ethical and standardized practices, enhance the public relations profession in Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties.

Three types of awards can be presented in each division or category:

– Award of Distinction: Presented to all entries that meet the five criteria of excellence set by the panel of judges.

– Image Award: May be presented to the top-scoring entry in each category, provided it meets the predetermined criteria of excellence.

– Judges’ Award: Given to an outstanding entry that achieves maximum results while using a minimum amount of money.

The top-scoring entry in each division receives a Grand Image Award, with the top public relations program receiving the Grand All Image Award.

In the division for Public Relations Programs, Institutional Category, the District’s Inaugural Wings Over Water Festival received an both Image Award and a Judge’s Award.

The WOW Festival was designed to help community members discover Southwest Florida’s water, land and wildlife.

The district also received an Image Award and a Judge’s Award, in the division for Public Relations Tools, for its Stormwater Opportunities Presentation which resulted in a grant from South Florida Water Management District to build the Halfway Pond Pump Station Phase 1.

The stormwater presentation also won a Grand Image Award for the entire Public Relations Tools Division.
