GAEA Guides presents kayak nature tours for May

– May 2: Mound Key and the Estuary of Estero Bay from Coconut Point in Bonita Springs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. We will visit Mound Key, the capital of the Calusa civilization. Hear stories of the Calusa natives and see this amazing archeological site where they lived for 1000’s of years. The estuary is abundant with life – many birds and marine creatures. Cost is $75 per person.

– May 3: Bird Beaches and Mangrove Creeks of Bunche Beach and San Carlos Bay Kayak Tour from 3-7 p.m. A protected wild area of shallow waters, lots of birds and a variety of other creatures, including dolphin and manatee. Cost is $55 per person.

– May 3: Sunset/Bird Rookery Kayak Tour on the Caloosahatchee River from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Fort Myers. Paddle on the Caloosahatchee and some wild creeks with 1000’s of birds. Learn about the plants and animals that are in this part of our estuary. Great view of the sunset. Cost is $40 per person.

– May 4: Estuary Kayak Tour in Estero Bay from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bonita Beach. Learn about the wonders of America’s only Mangrove Forest. See herons, egrets, pelicans, osprey, roseate spoonbills, dolphins, manatees and more. Cost is $40 per person.

– May 5: Wildflower Kayak Tour on the Orange River from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is spring and Southwest Florida is just full of gorgeous wildflowers and the Orange River has many of them blooming along its shores. Lots of turtles basking in the sun on logs and turtles and fish swimming in the water. Learn about the birds, plants and animals that live here. Cost is $50 per person.

– May 6: Peace River and Hunter Creek Estuary Bird Rookery and Sunset Kayak Tour from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Punta Gorda. Wilderness and birds on the Peace River and its tributaries. A great time to see the very active bird rookery full of nesting birds. Cost is $40 per person.

– May 7: Sunset Kayak Tour on Estero Bay from 5:30-8:30 p.m. from Coconut Point in Bonita Springs. Watch day turn to dusk on the waters of spectacular Estero Bay. See the sun set on this beautiful estuary. Day birds feed for the last time and then the evening birds come out. Frequently we see dolphin playing here. Cost is $45 per person.

– May 8: Cocohatchee River/Wiggins Pass Estuary Kayak Tour from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.. North Naples. This is a beautiful estuary area, with mangroves and many birds, dolphins, manatees and other critters. Cost is $45 per person.

– May 9: Mangrove Mazes of Matlacha Pass Kayak Tour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Meet at Randell Research Center, 4130 Pine Island Road. Visit the Mangrove Mazes and Tunnels of Matlacha Pass, “Nature’s Cathedrals.” Lots of birds, fish and critters in these mysterious tunnels. We may see the visiting White Pelicans. Cost is $50 per person.

– May 10: Alva Caloosahatchee River and Creeks Kayak Tour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The quaint town of Alva has important historical connections with our River. Beautiful, tranquil and full of life, the river and creeks of this area are a pleasure to visit. Cost is $50 per person. Just bring water and your lunch.

– May 16: Archeological Kayak and Site Tour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bokeelia. Learn about our ancient native Calusa civilization by taking a guided tour of the Calusa Heritage Trail at the Pineland Site Complex. Then paddle on the grass flats of Pine Island Sound like the Calusa did. See a variety of birds, sponges, fish, soft corals, bottom dwelling creatures, dolphin and sometimes manatee. Cost is $60 per person.

– May 17: Estuary Kayak Tour on the East Side of Estero Bay from Coconut Point in Bonita Springs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A great area to learn about Florida’s First Aquatic Preserve. This estuary is abundant with life – many birds and marine creatures. Wander around secluded mangrove lagoons and tunnels. Hear stories of the Calusa natives that lived in this area for 1000’s of years. Cost is $45 per person.
