Chamber looking for ‘outstanding’ nominees

Inke Baker, the interim executive director and CEO of the Greater Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce, is seeking nominations in the community for recognition at chamber luncheons.

"We're looking for people who have done an outstanding job at work or at some event," Baker said. The two awards include an Employee of the Month Award and the Chamber Member of the Month Award. She said the award for the employee does not have to belong to the chamber.

The event to recognize outstanding people in the community is held on the last Tuesday of the month during the chamber's luncheon meetings.

The luncheons are held at various sites in the community. Last month, the banquet was held at the Majestic Golf Club on Homestead Rd.

Baker is also interested in honoring an outstanding firefighter or EMS technician from the Lehigh Acres Fire and Rescue Service each month and is contact with the board of the fire district.

Anyone can nominate a person for an award, Baker said. You can call her at 369-3322. You should prepare a letter citing the reasons that the person be recognized.

Baker said those who are recognized are guests during the luncheon and are called to the front to receive an award, usually along with the person who made the nomination.

"We have a lot of great folks in Lehigh Acres who do outstanding jobs and we want to recognize them for what they do," Baker said. "We are glad to give them a plaque from the chamber."

The next banquet will be on May 28, the day after Labor day. Not only are chamber members invited to the banquet, but it is also open to anyone in the community. In addition to recognizing outstanding individuals in the community, there is a guest speaker and there is time for networking with others in the community.

The program starts at 11 a.m. with lunch at 11:30. The luncheon usually is over by 1 p.m.
