East County Regional Library presents programs
The East County Regional Library announces the following activities for the public:
Adults
– English Caf

6 p.m. May 13 and 20
Practice your English with English Cafe, a free, conversation session for adult ESOL and ESL students. Each 90-minute session provides adult learners an opportunity to practice speaking English with native speakers. Participants may start at any time. Advanced registration is not necessary.
– Chess Anyone?
4 p.m. May 13 and 20
Rise to the chess challenge and join the fun. Chess enthusiasts of all ages are welcome. Bring your own chess set or use one of ours.
– Knitting Nook
5 p.m. today, May 8
A fun, casual group of knitters and crocheters who love to get together to share project and technique ideas. Please note that this group is not facilitated by a professional knitting instructor, but is intended for the group members to learn from each other. Some materials will be provided for newcomers, or bring your own project to work on. Registration is requested.
– Meet the Author: Dania Ferro
1 p.m. May 11
Listen to Dania as she explains how winning a contest made her dream of becoming an author come true. She will be discussing her books: Ralatos de la Mrs. Lopez and Dislogo con mi Corazon. A world of magic and love, represented by more than 60 poems dedicated to Cuba, love and family life. An English interpreter will be present.
– Introduction to Computers
10 a.m. May 16
This class is an overview of computer fundamentals. Learn the basics of using the mouse, understanding the desktop, some basic programs and search engines. Class size is limited to 10 participants. Registration is required.
– Cardmaking with Stamps
10 a.m. May 18
Unleash your creativity. Become your own designer with stamps, decorative papers and cards that can be used for many other projects at home. Stamp a one of a kind card or gift. Give it to a special person or keep it for yourself. Supplies will be provided. Registration is required.
– Poetry Room
6 p.m. May 21
Poetry lovers unite. Join other like-minded people to talk about poetry and share what it means to you. Bring your favorite poem and listen to the poetry of others in a friendly, receptive environment.
– Chess Tournament
9 a.m. May 25
Calling all chess enthusiasts. Players of all ages are welcome. Registration is required.

– Toddler Storytime
10 a.m. today, May 8
10 a.m. May 9
Children 2 years old and their caregivers participate in song, fingerplays and short stories. The success of this age group depends on adult participation and encouragement. Toddler storytime lasts approximately 30 minutes.
– Baby-Parent Rhyme Time
10:30 a.m. May 11
Be prepared to tickle, jump and fly with your baby. These rhymes and songs are for infants, up to 24 months, accompanied by an adult. This 20-minute program is filled with songs designed to introduce rhyming and movement to infants.
– Gun Safety with Eddie Eagle
2 p.m. May 18
Children will view a video on gun safety and take home a workbook to help reinforce what they’ve learned.

Preschoolers (ages 3 to 5) attend this storytime independently while parents or caregivers wait nearby in the library building. This storytime includes activities that require more participation and a longer attention span. Each preschool storytime lasts about 30 minutes.
– Gun Safety with Eddie Eagle
2 p.m. May 18
Children will view a video on gun safety and take home a workbook to help reinforce what they’ve learned.
– Kids Read Down Fines
4:30-5:30 p.m. May 22
3-4 p.m. May 25
Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading, during the allotted time. A total of $8 per day may be earned. For ages 18 and younger. Coupons may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only.

– Teens Sharing Poetry
2 p.m. today, May 8
Calling teen poetry lovers. You are invited to join other teens to talk about poetry. Bring a favorite poem or one you have penned yourself and share it with others. Snacks provided. Registration is not required but the program is limited to 25 participants.
– Monster Mics
2 p.m. May 13
Calling all teen rappers to the East County Regional Library. Bring your lyrics, bring your beats and share your songs and freestyles with others. Snacks provided. Registration is not required but the program is limited to 25 participants.
– Wii Play Wii Dance
2 p.m. May 14
Visit the East County Regional Library and play Nintendo Wii. Game choice will vary from program to program. Snacks will be provided. Registration is not required but the program is limited to 25 participants.
– Game On. Board Games.
2 p.m. May 20
Calling all teens and tweens. Stop by the East County Regional Library to play a variety of board games at this relaxed and fun-for-all program. Registration is not required but the program is limited to 25 participants. Snacks will be provided.
– Kids Read Down Fines
4:30-5:30 p.m. May 22
3-4 p.m. May 25
Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading, during the allotted time. A total of $8 per day may be earned. For ages 18 and younger. Coupons may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only.
