By Staff | Jun 25, 2013

An investigation is under way into the death of a Lehigh Acres boy who apparently drowned Monday at a home licensed as a daycare.

The child had been identified as Christian L. Byrd, 2.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office had received a medical assistance call to 5003 Lee Circle North at 2:30 p.m. The caller said a neighbor was performing CPR on a young child who had been under water for a length of time.

Arriving deputies continued life-saving efforts. Emergency medical personnel also arrived and transported the boy to a local hospital. Despite efforts, the child was pronounced deceased.

Due to the nature of the incident, detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit were assigned to investigate. The Florida Department of Children and Families was contacted since the homeowner was licensed for daycare, officials said in a prepared statement.

The District 21 Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to determine cause of death.

No other information has been released.
