Rubio's staff to assist citizens with federal agency issues

Residents who are having an issue with Social Security, Medicare, veterans benefits, immigration, the IRS or any federal agency can meet with a member of Sen. Marco Rubio's staff.

Staff will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. June 27 in Building U, Room 119, at Edison State College, at 8099 College Parkway, Fort Myers.

Plan to attend to meet your local staff and find out the services Rubio's office offers his constituents.

Sager to appear at Hammond Stadium

The Fort Myers Miracle will welcome to Hammond Stadium TNT basketball sideline analyst Craig Sager on June 29.

Sager will sign autographs and pose for pictures when the Miracle host the St. Lucie Mets at 6:05 p.m. with gates opening at 5 p.m.

Sager is famous for his unique suits, and the Miracle will honor his fashion sense with a pair of commemorative bobbleheads. The first 500 fans entering the ballpark will get to choose one from the pair.

Sager was a 2012 Sports Emmy Awards Nominee for Sports Reporter. Once the sports director for WINK-TV, he was honored with the Sportscaster of the Year award from the Florida High School Coaches Association.

Professional Network for Women to meet

The Professional Network for Women will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 2 at Fountain Crest Senior Living.

The guest speaker is Karyn Brooks, who is a business coach. She will talk about how important customer relationship marketing is in building a business.

The first meeting is free; an annual membership is $75.

JetBlue to host soccer camp

About 300 soccer players from around the country and up to 40 coaches will converge on JetBlue Park in Fort Myers in July as part of Futbol Club Barcelona's affiliate for youth soccer.

This is the first year that the club, designed for ages 6-14, has staged a camp in Fort Myers. The day camp runs July 8-12 and the coaches' camp runs July 6-7.

The Barcelona group is among the highest profile soccer teams worldwide. Futbol Club Barcelona hosts the largest number of spectators of all stadiums in Europe, with 98,800 seats sold.

JetBlue Park is a Lee County facility that touts six youth soccer fields that are used for tournament play and youth soccer about 10 months out of the year.

Public welcome to attend 'An Artful Evening'

The Arts of the Inland and the Gulf Coast Music School present "An Artful Evening" at 6 p.m. July 11 in the auditorium at Keiser University, at 9100 Forum Corporate Parkway, Fort Myers.

The event features string performances by the GCMS students, literary readings by AOI members, soprano soloist Christine Bronson and artwork by AOI members Joan Benner, Julie Camp, Bobbee Cera, June DeVincent, Connie Killebrew, Deborah Kik, LaVon Koenig, Peggy Parker, Douglas Patterson and Noel Skiba.

Women's Club to go over FGCU plans

The Democratic Women's Club of Lee County will meet at 10:30 a.m. July 13 at the Hilton Garden Inn at College Parkway and Summerlin Road.

The featured speaker is Dr. Richard Behr, dean of Engineering at Florida Gulf Coast University. He will speak on FGCU's plans for the future and its contributions to the cultural and economic strength of Southwest Florida.

Free entry to pool on Saturdays for summer

In partnership with the Lee County Sheriff's Office, Nations Association, Lee County Parks and Recreation and the Lee County School District, the Tice Community Pool is helping children cool off and take pride in their community this summer.

At 4515 Glenwood Ave., the pool will be open to the public every Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. until Aug. 3. Admission is free.

Safety is a priority and a number of deputies and volunteers have become certified life guards for the outreach. Water safety instructions given on site.

Citizens can submit questions for county manager candidates

The public is invited to submit questions for Lee County commissioners and county staff to take under consideration and potentially use when they interview the future county manager.

The recruitment Web page was developed to provide the public with information about the search for a new county manager. It is now open for people who want to submit questions for the candidates.

The Lee County Board of County Commissioners is tentatively scheduled to interview the finalists in early August.

'Pickin' In The Park set

Musicians come together to perform during 'Pickin' In The Park from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays at the lodge by the lake at the rear of Veterans Park.

The public is welcome to join in playing or just enjoy the music. There is no charge.

Arthritis water exercise class offered at pool

Sponsored by the National Arthritis Foundation, a free exercise class will be held at 11:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Lehigh Community Park pool, at 1400 W. Fifth St.

Suitable for every fitness level, exercises focus on the activities of daily living, moving a joint through a range of motion and holding it to feel a gentle stretch in the muscle.

Guided by an Arthritis Foundation certified instructor, the 45-minute class is held in chest-deep water; no swimming ability is required. Lifeguards are always on-duty, and the pool has handrails and shallow steps leading in.

No registration is necessary.
