This fall the Kiwanis Club of Lehigh Acres will have awarded 58 scholarships to students who will be attending colleges and universities all across the United States. The awards total $156,450 and range from one-year to four years in duration, according to Rick Anglickis chairman of the scholarship committee for the Kiwanis club.

At award ceremonies at Lehigh Senior High School, East Lee County High School, Dunbar High School, Evangelical Christian High School, and Riverdale High School, Lehigh Kiwanians were present recognizing those students who were graduating and receiving Kiwanis scholarship awards for this fall. The awards were presented to graduating seniors who all live in Lehigh Acres.

These awards and all of the Kiwanis community, school and youth program sponsorships were made possible because of the wonderful people who donate and purchase clothing and household items of all kinds from the Kiwanis thrift store located on Homestead Road, according to Damon Shelor, Kiwanis Store manager.

“This would not be possible without the many volunteers who donate their valuable time, talents, and energy at our store and I want to especially thank them, their neighbors, and their family members who have supported us in the past,” said Kiwanis club president Bruce Boyd.

Along with these scholarships, five additional Lehigh Acres students received Kiwanis scholarships that were awarded from endowed scholarship programs at Florida Gulf Coast University and Edison State College.

Scholarship applications for the fall of 2014 can be found at the Kiwanis web site at: www. Lehigh Acres Kiwanis.info. Deadline for receiving all applications will be March 31, 2014.
