Lehigh boy drowned, officials report

An autopsy confirmed drowning was the cause of death for a 2-year-old boy from Lehigh Acres.

At 2:30 p.m. June 24, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a medical assistance call at 5003 Lee Circle N. Deputies responded to the scene.

The caller advised a neighbor was performing CPR on a child who had been under water for a length of time. Upon arrival, deputies continued life-saving efforts.

Emergency medical personnel also arrived and transported the youth to a local hospital, where the boy was pronounced deceased.

The child was identified as Christian L. Byrd.

Crime scene technicians collected evidence and documenting the scene. The District 21 Medical Examiner performed an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The Florida Department of Children and Families was contacted since the homeowner was licensed for daycare.

The investigation continues.
