Lehigh chamber creates calendar for event planning

On April 6, there were six major events taking place on the same day and apparently neither group was aware of what else may be going on in the community.

"This isn't an unusual circumstance," said Inke Baker, president and CEO of the Greater Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce, who said that she had been thinking in the back of her mind that Lehigh needed some central location where events could be listed on a calendar and a place where people who plan events for local clubs and organizations and special events, could call and get information about certain dates.

"This really is a big help to organizations here in Lehigh. Now they can call and say they are tentatively planning something and ask about a certain date and I can very easily tell them if there are things happening on th at date," Baker said.

"Sometimes, there may be events plants for certain groups such as children or teenagers and other events planned for adult audiences. These may not conflict for attendance, but still I will let people know what is happening on certain dates," she said.

Her plan is working as the word is spreading around Lehigh. She stresses the calendar program at chamber meetings and events. She wants to get the word out to every organization in Lehigh so planners can come up with good dates to attract more people to a certain event.

When she gets information and lists activities, she makes it available on the chamber's website at

I've put it up in a way that once the person on the Internet gets to the Calendar, they will see an actual monthly calendar and a listing for an event if there is one for a particular day.

"If they click on that listing, it will take them to a separate page with all the details as to what and where the events is and any pertinent information for the planned activity," she said.

At the present time, Baker says planners of events in Lehigh should email them at and give all the information and the date they want to hold the event. If there is a problem, Baker will get back with the event planner.

"Eventually, I want to get one of our excellent volunteers to take this over, but for the time being, I am putting it up on the Internet, all in an effort to keep conflicting dates from taking place for planned events," she said,.

She said there is also a link to the chamber's calendar on the Lehigh Community County's website, too.

"You can click on it and it will take you to the chamber's website and to the right on the screen and links to calendars," she said.
