Postal Pointers: USPS salutes American flag with new stamp collection

July 10, 2013
By KATHLEEN SWANSON , Lehigh Acres Citizen

The U.S. Postal Service is saluting the American flag with a new collection of four Forever - priced at 46 cents each- stamps.

Forever stamps are "forever" regardless of what price First-Class postage is.

The Flag for All Seasons Forever stamps depict images of Old Glory flying against backgrounds representing the winter, spring, summer and fall seasons.

The stamp art, consisting of opaque watercolors on illustration board, is the work of Laura Stutzman, who used personal photographs to create the series.

The stamps are available nationwide in coils of 100 at local post offices, online at: usps.com/stamps or by calling (800) STAMP24 (782-6724).

Booklets of 20 stamps are on sale nationwide; booklets of 10 stamps will be available Aug. 16.

Mr. ZIP's Tip

Postage stamps are more than currency. They are miniature works of art designed to reflect the American experience and highlight heroes, history, milestones, achievements, and natural wonders.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.

Kathleen Swanson is a spokeswoman for U.S. Postal Service.
