A fire that occurred on July 10 in Lehigh Acres may have caused by a youth playing with matches is the conclusion of Kenneth Bennett, the fire marshal at the Lehigh Acres Fire and Rescue District.
Bennett said the fire department responded to a residential fire in a duplex that was occupied at the time.
The father is credited with saving his family from the fire and aiding in the rescue of his son from the room on fire and then by using a garden hose to contain the fire until ire units arrived on the scene, Bennett said.
Two dogs and a ferret were also inside the house and did not appear to be injured.
The fire occurred at 4:25 p.m. and damages were estimated to be about $10,000, according to Bennett.
He said that based upon the debris and other material found on the scene, the fire appears to have occurred as a result of a juvenile with matches.
