What price do we pay for our elected officials?

July 17, 2013

To the editor:

Our legislators' votes in the last session did nothing good for the people that elected them.

Their vote against ethanol is another example of pandering to Will Weatherford, speaker of the house in Tallahassee. This vote is making Algenol a new company in Lee County, which is now considering moving to Arizona as a result of this vote.

Wake up, Caldwell, Rodrigues, Fitzhagen, and Eagles! You are now responsible for loss of jobs in our area.

In addition, job creation would improve if we insured the uninsured with federal funds. Employers would not be paying fines for not buying insurance if they have 50 or more employees. Furthermore, employers with only 49 employees are holding back to avoid the mandate.

Lee County, your people are paying millions in federal taxes and are not getting anything back. We get fewer tax dollars back than we pay federally. Taking money for the uninsured would recoup some the net outflow of federal taxes from Florida. Your opposition to the good of the uninsured is not going by without question. We cannot afford to wait until the next session.

Please call or write to Gov. Scott.
