A Delaware company is reportedly sending notices to Lee County property owners stating that they should have a copy of their deed and that the company will provide it to them for a fee of $83.

"Please be aware that deeds are freely available in the public records and you are able to use the Clerk's Web site: www.leeclerk.org to find and print a free copy of your deed," Linda Doggett, Lee County clerk of the Circuit Court and comptroller, said. "If you prefer to have the clerk to provide you with a copy, there is a fee of $2 per search; $1 per page for the copies; and certified copies cost an additional $2 per document."
