Herbert Lee Amstutz, 89, of Lehigh Acres, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at his home. He was born July 7, 1924, in Bluffton, Ohio, a son of the late Aldine and Sylvia Amstutz.
On Aug. 25, 1961, he married Janet Galloway.
In 1938, he began farming with his father and following that he served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II.
He retired as a machinist, where he made axles for locomotives.
He was a life member of the VFW and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lehigh Acres.
He is survived by his wife; six children, seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at the Hodges-Farley Funeral Home, with the Rev. R. Craig Countiss officiating. Burial with full military honors was held Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at Sarasota National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Hope Hospice in Lehigh Acres.
