August 28, 2013
Lehigh Acres Citizen

Annmarie (Hackford) Tallent, 87, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, in Lehigh Acres. She was born Dec. 7, 1925, in Buffalo, N.Y., one of seven children of John Henry and Anne Kathryn (Kennel) Schifferli.

She married Irving H. Hackford, also from Buffalo, N.Y., on June 10, 1944. He died in July 1987 in Lehigh Acres.

She found her second love and marriage in Sidney Jones Tallent, who also preceded her in death, 10 years later.

She earned an associate's degree in nursing from Trocaire College, in Buffalo, N.Y.

She continued participating in the healthcare field with a major emphasis on psychiatry and was deeply rewarded by her work at the Charter Glade Hospital in Fort Myers.

She moved to Lehigh with Irving in 1982 and was an active volunteer at the Lehigh Acres Senior Center. She also donated her time and talent to the local Meals on Wheels program and served as a eucharistic minister at St Raphael's Catholic Church for many years.

She particularly enjoyed all types of dancing and musical events, and she performed with the "Senior Follies" on many occasions.

She spent many happy days with her family in Lehigh. She played an especially active and encouraging role in her grandchildren's lives in attending their many swimming meets and soccer matches and in caring for them after school and during vacations.

She is survived by her eldest sister, Joan Rott, 95, of Buffalo, N.Y.; children, Judie A. (BJ) Foster-Kean, Charles H. (Ann) Hackford, and Gayle A. (John) Reynolds; grandchildren, Shawn R. French, Dawn Marie (Kean) Wilson, Heather J. (Hackford) Strickland and Bret J. Hackford; and great-granddaughter, Aurora "Rory" Strickland.

She was preceded in death by her grandchild, Kristian R. French, on Aug. 17, 1996.

A memorial service will be held Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. at St. Raphael's Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida.

Arrangements by the Hodges Funeral Home.
