On Aug. 27, the Fort Myers Police Department's Charlie Shift arrested three people for grand theft auto.
At 5:19 p.m. an officer was traveling south on Veronica Shoemaker Boulevard approaching Michigan Avenue when he saw a traffic infraction by the driver of silver Ford Explorer. The officer tried to conduct a traffic stop but the driver accelerated and began driving erratically.
The driver then hit a curb, overcorrected and crashed the SUV with the vehicle rolling over two times. Three men ran from the SUV. The man led several officers on a short foot pursuit before being taken into custody. Officers later learned the SUV was reported stolen.
Luis Enrique Morales, 20, of Fort Myers, and Amisael Rivera, 16, and Quayshon Madison, 18, both of Lehigh Acres, were arrested and charged with grand theft auto and resisting arrest without violence, according to officials at the Fort Myers Police Department.
