It is the time of the year for the election of members to Community Council of Lehigh Acres. There are 21 elected members, with seven members being elected for a three-year term each year, said Robert Saul, a member of the council. To qualify you must be a resident who has lived in Lehigh for at least one year and must be a registered voter.
Anyone who thinks he or she would like to help Lehigh improve and become a better place to live in should consider running for a seat on the council, Saul said.
The group has access to the Lee County Commission, the Department of Transportation and many other agencies which set policy for Lehigh, Saul said. If you think you can help, then pick up an application to become a member.
Applications are available during the remainder of September and must be turned in by Oct. 15. You can pick up an application at the Greater Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce at 25 Homestead Rd. North which is in the Lehigh Town Center next to Alabama Rd. You will need to obtain the signatures of 20 registered voters who wish to support your candidacy and return them to the chamber prior to Oct. 15, Saul said.
The election will be held during November with ballots returned by Nov. 27.
Ballots will be available at the chamber of commerce beginning on Nov. 1. The seven people with the most votes will be elected and notified in December with installation in January of 2014, Saul said.
"If you dare to care, become a member," he said.
