Hertz announces job fair

Hertz Corp. will host a job fair from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 25, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 26 in the Blue Heron Conference Room at the Hyatt Regency Resort Coconut Point, at 5001 Coconut Road, Bonita Springs.

Dycke to perform at The Hut

Entertainer Jerry Dycke will perform Sept. 26 from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Hut Restaurant in Buckingham.

His career spans 50 years, during which time he recorded for industry greats like Sam Phillips at Sun Records and later MCA.

As a songwriter and composer, he is most proud of "Starship Fly On," which he co-wrote with Charlie Whitaker to commemorate the tragic flight of Challenger 7.

The song was selected as the official song of the Challenger 7 Fund and accompanies the fund's video produced by director and videographer, John Biffar.

Groups organize '2013 Spray Off'

In October, the Lehigh Acres Community Initiative, Keep Lee County Beautiful and the Lee County Sheriff's Office will host the 2013 Spray Off.

The competition allows youth to apply their mixed media artistic talents using spray paint on appropriate canvas and not on local homes, businesses and vehicles.

Twelve participants will be selected to enter the second round to paint from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at Veterans Park.

All artwork will be displayed at the Lehigh Makes a Difference Day, which will take place the same day at the park from 3 to 8 p.m.

The deadline to register and send in artwork is Sept. 27.

Lehigh Singers to hold auction

The Lehigh Singers auction will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Royal Palm Square in Fort Myers.

The art for sale will be on display at ABC Framing, at 12801 Commerce Lake Drive, Suite 314, Fort Myers. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Estimates and appraisal prices for the silent and live auctions will be available at the store.

Art by internationally acclaimed artist ZAKI will be on display, as well as with many nationally acclaimed artists.

Libertarian Party of Lee County to meet

The Libertarian Party of Lee County will meet from 7 to 8:45 p.m. Oct. 2 in the Judge Landis or Useppa Room of the Shoeless Joe's restaurant at Bell Tower in South Fort Myers.

Dinner is served between 7 and 7:45 p.m.; it is self-pay.

We welcome liberty-minded individuals of all party affiliations.

Kim Hawk, libertarian activist and a representative on the Lee County Soil and Water Board, will discuss the "7 Myths of Capitalism" at 7:45 p.m.

League of Women Voters of Lee County to meet

The League of Women Voters of Lee County will meet Oct. 5 at the Hilton Garden Inn, at 12600 University Drive, Fort Myers.

Registration and networking at 8:45 a.m.; breakfast at 9 a.m.; guest speaker at 9:30 a.m.; member business meeting at 11 a.m.; and board meeting at 11:30 a.m.

The guest speaker is Denise Sabatini, MSTBU program manager for Lee County. The topic is "Lee County Government."

Sabatini will provide an overview of the government agencies and LeeGROWS - Government Resource and Orientation Workshop Series - a program designed to help the public understand what happens "behind the scenes."

The public is invited to attend.

Edison State College to host job fair

Career Services at Edison State College will host a job fair from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 10 in Room 102, Building U.

The free event is open to the public and will feature a variety of businesses looking for employees to join their workforce. Positions available include full-time, part-time and internship possibilities.

The fair will provide employers with the opportunity to network with interested individuals, while allowing attendees the chance to ask questions about job openings.

Attendees are encouraged to bring resumes and dress professionally.

8th annual Pirate Festival planned

Presented by the Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Pollo Tropical, the 8th annual Pirate Fest will be held Oct. 11-13 at the docks beside Matanzas Pass on Fort Myers Beach.

The festival features live music, a family fun theatre, magic show, live sea battle, real cannons, pirate ship rides, mermaids, a Pirate's Ball and other pirate groups interacting with the crowd on the streets of Old San Carlos Boulevard.

Admittance is free, excluding the Pirate's Ball and rides on the Black Duck pirate ship.

A Pub-n-Grub coupon book is available and includes drink and food specials from area restaurants and bars. The coupons are good through October.

Sponsored and hosted by Nervous Nellies, the Pirate's Ball will features a pirate costume contest. Prizes and givaways will be awarded. Advanced tickets are available online.

Free monthly art demo

Instructor June De Vincent will give a free demonstration of a different art medium on the third Wednesday of each month from noon to 2 p.m. at the Veterans Park Recreation Center, at 55 Homestead Road S.

For ages 14 and older.

The schedule is as follows:

- Oct. 16: Watercolors

- Nov. 20: Pastels

- Jan. 15: Rice paper

- Feb. 19: Optical illusion art

Pool offering fall swim lessons, water aerobics

The Lehigh Acres Community Pool, at 1400 W. Fifth St., is hosting fall swim lessons. A range of skill levels are offered for all ages by American Red Cross-certified instructors. Eight classes are $50.

Commit to get fit with aqua aerobics. Choose the fast-paced workout at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, or the low-impact National Arthritis Foundation-sponsored class at 1:15 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays. Classes are in chest-deep water, 45 minutes in length and do not heavily impact joints.

There are lifeguards on-duty; lap swimmers are welcome.

Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for ages 17 and under, and $2 for seniors.

Pickin' In The Park set

Musicians come together to perform during Pickin' In The Park from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays at the lodge by the lake at the rear of Veterans Park.
