Shop and compare insurances with Obamacare

By Staff | Oct 9, 2013

To the editor:

I am writing this in response to those who say the ACA will not help them. I do think there is something in this letter for everyone, just like there is something in the ACA for all.

There has been a lot of misinformation out there so let us correct some of it.

The ACA or “Obamacare” will reduce the cost of health care while reducing the deficit by $1 trillion in the next 10 years. Perhaps we will no longer spend $5,000 per capita more than the average person in industrial nations spends on health care.

The ACA will increase jobs in health care; insurance companies will no longer be allowed to run roughshod over patients. They will no longer be allowed to charge women three to five times excess for health care. They will no longer just be able to stop paying for care.

Insurers will have to get permission for rate increases. Every insurance policy must meet some basic standards.

Even catastrophic policies must offer visits for preventative care.

The ACA will demand quality care with patient centered medical homes. There will be conversion from payment per episode to payment for outcome (value).

President Obama said if you have your insurance and want to keep it you can. Well I will do him one better. I think everyone should check out the exchanges, compare their policies. I would not be surprised if many switch to insurance through the exchange. Another possibility is to convince your employer to shop the SHOP exchanges when they open.

There should be no negotiations on ACA, no piecemeal changes. It is strongest as it stands. It must be given a chance to work. President Obama says he has bent over backwards for the Republican Congress.

I hope he stands tall and not let this Congress do harm to the American People. This is huge, bigger than Medicaid, Medicare, Part D combined. We must not allow congressional bullies to take it away.
