'Petsgiving' adoption special in Lee County
Lee County Domestic Animal Services is giving adopters a chance to receive $30 off the regular adoption fee in November.
When it comes to felines, get twice the love with two-for-one adoptions for all cats and kittens.
All adoptions include spay or neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchip ID and many other veterinary services, valued at more than $500.
Adoption applications may be submitted online.
View a current list of pets up for adoption and lost pets online. The Web site updates hourly.
Adoption hours are from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Libertarian Party of Lee County to meet
The Libertarian Party of Lee County will meet today, Nov. 6, from 7 to 8:45 p.m. in the Judge Landis/Useppa Room at the Shoeless Joe's restaurant at Bell Tower in South Fort Myers.
Dinner is served from 7 to 7:45 p.m. and is self-pay.
Aaron O'Brien, an attorney and Libertarian, will speak on contemporary legal issues affecting Americans' liberties at 7:45 p.m.

Grand opening for new McDonalds
The new McDonalds, at 11252 State Road 82, Fort Myers, is now open and will celebrate its official grand opening Nov. 8-9.
There will be specials from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with $1.82 Happy Meals and .82 cent Big Macs, along with opportunities to register for some giveaways.
Cat Country 107.1 will host a live radio remote from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 9, with a special guest appearance from Ronald McDonald at 1:30 p.m.

Rotary announces Rock, Blues and Blues Festival
The Rotary Club of Lehigh will host the Second Annual Rock, Blues and Brews Festival from 3 to 10 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Mirror Lakes Golf Club, at 670 Milwaukee Blvd.
The event features beers, food and a horseshoe tournament. Performers include Live N Learn, Hidden Agenda, and Rex Bongo and the Sophisticated Hippies.
Admission is $5 per person. The event is a cash only event.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs, but no coolers or outside food or drink.
Registration for the horseshoe tournament is $50 per two-person team. Each team will receive a $10 food/beverage credit and will be competing for cash prizes.

All of the proceeds will benefit the Rotary Club of Lehigh, which uses the funds to support local schools and community activities.

Calling all musicians
The Lehigh Concert Band has open spots for any concert band musician who can play at a high school or college level or above.
The season runs from November to April, and the band rehearses from 7 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church, at 705 Leeland Blvd.
Performances are held as the full band or in small groups at least once a month at festivals, churches and retirement homes in Lehigh Acres and Southwest Florida.
Upcoming performances will be held at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at the St. Raphael Fall Festival and at 3 p.m. Nov. 17 at Faith Lutheran Church.
The concerts are free, but donations are appreciated; donations help to fund the band's operation.
Those interested in joining are invited to stop by a Tuesday rehearsal or any performance.

Free monthly art demo

The Southwest Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will host its 2013 Fall Job Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 21 at Hodges University, at 4501 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers.

Edible Gardening meetings set
The Lehigh Acres Edible Gardening Exchange will meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 21 in the Veterans Park Recreational Building, at 55 Homestead Road S.
The guest speaker is Gene McAvoy, a five-county UF/IFAS regional vegetable agent. He will discuss tomato diseases and insects.
After the first "trial" visit, the venue requires a $10 lifetime membership fee; the meetings are free.
The Junior Edible Gardening Club 4-H Exchange will meet at 5 p.m., prior to the adult meeting.
The exchanges host the same guest speaker; a 4-H membership fee of $15 is required.
Seeds are started at every 4-H meeting. The seedlings are later entered in the Lee County Fair.
Country music star to perform free concert
Josh Turner will take the stage at 6 p.m. Nov. 24 at the Seminole Casino Immokalee for the third annual Pigs in Paradise National Championship BBQ Festival.
A Hannah, S.C. native, Turner has earned numerous CMA, ACM and Grammy nominations since the release of his debut album, Long Black Train, which garnered number one hits such as "Your Man," "Would You Go With Me" and "Why Don't We Just Dance."
The Pigs in Paradise National Championship BBQ Festival will kick off Nov. 22.
During the event, six nationally renowned ribbers will cook up their best ribs, pulled pork and beef brisket with hopes of winning the national championship crown.
Attendees will enjoy live music, a classic car show, pig races, a motorcycle rally, an art show and more over the three-day festival, which takes place rain or shine.
Pool offers fall swim lessons, aerobics
The Lehigh Acres Community Pool, at 1400 W. Fifth St., is hosting fall swim lessons. A range of skill levels are offered for all ages by American Red Cross-certified instructors. Eight classes are $50.
Commit to get fit with aqua aerobics. Choose the fast-paced workout at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, or the low-impact National Arthritis Foundation-sponsored class at 1:15 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays. Classes are in chest-deep water, 45 minutes in length and do not heavily impact joints.
There are lifeguards on-duty; lap swimmers are welcome.
Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for ages 17 and under, and $2 for seniors.

Pickin' In The Park scheduled
Musicians come together to perform during Pickin' In The Park from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays at the lodge by the lake at the rear of Veterans Park.
