Winners from Perceptions Art Show announced

The Arts of the Inland Perceptions Art Show was held Nov. 10 at the Majestic Golf Course in Lehigh Acres.

Best of show winner was artist Bobbee Cera for her scratch board work, entitled “Polar Bear & Cubs.”

“This is a finely executed piece demonstrating beautiful contrast, as well as a strong use of line and composition,” judge Lindsey England said.

First place winner was artist Deb Kik for her oil painting, titled “Mya.”

“This is a realistic portrait,”?England said. “It is particularly convincing in the eyeshadow and the wetness of the eyes and lips.”

Second place winner was artist June DeVincent for her watercolor on rice paper, titled “The River.”

“I love the color palette the artist used, as well as their ability to depict convincing depth,”?England said.

Third place winner was artist Pat Papa for her “Pathway to Tranquility.”

“This piece demonstrates a strong sense of perspective and is realistic, especially in the vine tendrils,” England said.

Honorable mention went to Diane Carmen for her oil, “Flutter Bye.”

“I like the abstract quality of the scene, use of color and paint application of this piece,” England said.

Honorable mention also went to Peggy Parker for her mixed media piece, titled “Harns Marsh II.”

“I like the use of mixed media, experimental paint application and composition of this work,” England said.

England is a fourth generation Floridian who graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University with a bachelor’s degree in art.

She has exhibited her environmentally conscious artwork throughout the region, as well as other national venues, and is currently the assistant at the Bob Rauschenberg Gallery at Edison State College.

Winners are eligible for the Art Council of Southwest Florida’s Biennial Winners’ Circle Show 2015, which will be held March 16-28 at the Charlotte County Art Guild’s Visual Arts Center in Punta Gorda.

Music for the event was provided by the Empire Jazz Quintet, with Brian Starkweather on piano, Gabriel Wallace on saxophone, Joe Fernandez on guitar, Luis Brito on bass and Tito Alvezuras on drums.

The Greater Lehigh Chamber of Commerce held the ribbon cutting ceremony at the show.

Lehigh Honorary Mayor Ahmed El-Gendy presided.
