During September, contractors pulled 51 permits to build single-family houses collectively valued at $12.3 million in unincorporated Lee County. That compares to 88 permits issued in August and 55 issued in September 2012, according to the Lee County Department of Community Development.
In fiscal year 2013, which concluded Oct. 1, single-family residential permitting is up 66 percent over fiscal year 2012. Lee County Community Development issued 806 permits for single-family homes in fiscal year 2013 compared to 487 in fiscal year 2012.
Also during September, 18 multi-family units were permitted, compared to 53 in August and 18 in August 2012. Permitting of multi-family units more than doubled in fiscal year 2013 with 310 permitted in the past 12 months and 152 permitted in fiscal year 2012.
General commercial activity was valued at nearly $2 million for nine permits, including a Culver's Restaurant to be built at 10050 University Plaza Drive. In comparison, commercial permits were valued at $2.5 million in August and $507,375 in September 2012
The value of commercial permitting in fiscal year 2013 is down 55 percent from the $68.9 million in fiscal year 2012 to $30.9 million in fiscal year 2013.
Lee County Community Development issued 2,735 permits of all kinds during September 36,442 for fiscal year 2013. That is up 14 percent over the fiscal year 2014 total of 31,314.
