The Philippines, officially known as the Republic of the Philippines, is a sovereign island country in Southeast Asia situated in the western Pacific Ocean.
Pastor Vicente Garcia, who was ordained through the Church of God and who lived in the Philippines, was featured in a story in The Citizen in December.
He said he first went to Miami in 1996 and Tennessee in 2000, then came to pastor The Word for the World Church, at 1050 Joel Blvd., in 2007. It has its head offices in Makati City in the Philippines.
The December story explained how Garcia's congregation is helping victims in the Philippines from Typhoon Haiyan, which devastated portions of Southeast Asia in November.
It is the deadliest Philippine typhoon on record, killing at least 6,155 people. Haiyan is also the strongest storm recorded at landfall and, unofficially, the strongest typhoon recorded in terms of wind speed.
