LAMS competes in math competition

Lehigh Acres Middle School’s Algebra Math Team competed over winter break at the FGCU Invitational Math Competition.

The team went up against 22 other middle schools from across South and Central Florida.

LAMS tied for second place in the team competition and came in seventh place overall.

Students to compete for scholarship money

On Jan. 25, more than 700 students will compete in the Thomas Alva Edison Kiwanis Science and Engineering Fair and Thomas A. Edison Inventors Fair for more than $900,000 in local scholarships.

At the Harborside Convention Center, the event showcases more than 400 science fair projects and about 300 inventions.

The Inventors Fair will be open to the public from 1:30 to 4 p.m., and the Science and Engineering Fair is open from 2 to 5 p.m.

EFOL Discovery Village on Edwards Drive and Centennial Park runs concurrent to the fairs. It features interactive STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) exhibits that are free to the public.

Family Math Night set

Family Math Night at Lehigh Acres Middle School will take place July 23 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the media center.

The event will feature eight stations of common core math practices manned by the math teachers, who will be available to guide participants through the Web sites and answer any and all questions.

Family members of students are invited to come and see just how fun math can be.
