Chamber names comedian to perform at gala event
Comedian Dave Celestian will be the guest entertainment at the Greater Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Awards Gala on Saturday, January 25 at Pelican Preserve. Community and business leaders will join together with residents from the Lehigh community to honor and recognize outstanding accomplishments from the year 2013, said Inke Baker, the chamber’s CEO and executive director.
She said this is the night where the “stars of our community are shining the brightest.”
“We will recognize Member, Employee and Volunteer of the Year, Law Enforcement Officer and Firefighter of the Year an ending with the Herat of Lehigh Acres award, Baker said.
In addition, she said the chamber will recognize the accomplishment of local teachers during the school year of 2013.
Officers and the new board of directors of the chamber for 2014 will also be installed during the program.
Celestian was a former engineer and business owner. He began his comedy career journey in the fall of 2005 when he took a stand up comedy class at the Tampa Improv in Florida after much persuasion from several friends over many years.
Celestian then set up his own comedy stage and theater in his garage for a place to practice his bits and find his comedic voice. He also hit the open mike circuit around his hometown of St Petersburg while maintaining his full time job as a painting contractor.
Not happy with the politics of the comedy clubs, he set up his own shows at venues around the area performing with other comedians in what was known as The War On Comedy Tour.
After three years of performing part-time he decided that more focus and energy were necessary to really excel so in the summer of 2008 he shut down his painting company, packed up his car, and moved to New York City to perform full-time.
Now, he is a sought out entertainer at many events.
For the fourth time, Clay Miller from NBC-2 in Fort Myers is the emcee.
“A Silent Auction with amazing items, thanks to our donors, will keep the participants on their toes until the last minute and a 50/50 raffle will generate one lucky winner at the end of the event,” Baker said.
Tickets can be purchased online for $50 a person at www.lehighacreschamber.org/gala.
Baker said scholarship opportunities are still available as well and start at $100,
The Gala will be held at Pelican Preserve in Fort Myers which is large enough to handle more than 200 people.
“We have tried to keep the event in Lehigh, but unfortunately there is no venue big enough,” Baker said.
