Student Assignment orientation sessions set

The Lee County School District will host six Student Assignment orientation sessions.

Topics will cover the evolution of the program, common misconceptions about attendance zones and the lottery process.

Student Assignment representatives will be onsite to assist parents with questions about the process.

Computers will also be available to complete applications.

Orientation sessions will be held at the following area locations:

– Lehigh Senior High School, at 901 Gunnery Road: Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium

– Lehigh Senior High School, at 901 Gunnery Road: Feb. 7 at 7:30 a.m. in the auditorium

Circles of Care early childhood education conference scheduled

Child Care of Southwest Florida invites early childhood educators and caregivers to Circles of Care, a daylong conference designed to inform and inspire those who work with children from infancy through elementary school.

The 19th annual conference will be held April 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the Fort Myers campus of Edison State College.

Presentations, age-specific workshops, hands-on experiences and exhibits will provide information and resources to teachers, administrators, paraprofessionals, family-care providers and parents.

Keynote speaker Ron Mohl will share teaching methods with STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts and math).

Up to .65 continuing education credits will be available.

Advance cost is $40 per person; admission at the door is $55.

Nominations to open for Kohl’s scholarships

Kohl’s Department Stores will take nominations for outstanding volunteers for the 2014 Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program.

Nominations for children ages 6-18 will be taken Jan. 31 to March 14 at: kohlskids.com, and nominators must be 21 years or older.

Kohl’s will award nearly $400,000 in scholarships and prizes to more than 2,300 youths for making a positive impact on their communities.
