Precinct ballot count to begin this afternoon

By Staff | Feb 5, 2014

Supervisor of Elections Sharon Harrington’s office will review the election day ballots for six Cape Coral precincts – 92, 99, 35, 103, 116 and 113 – this afternoon.

These are the precincts at which former mayor John Sullivan believes there may have been Election Day “irregularities” during the Cape Coral City Council General Election held in November.

Sullivan lost to challenger Marni Sawicki by 121 votes and he has filed suit to force a court-ordered recount.

The review of the precinct ballots will begin at 1 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Elections Office has finished its review begun Tuesday and continued this morning of provisional, early voting and absentee ballots.

As per a judge’s order, the ballot review must be completed by 5 p.m. today, Harrington said.

Sullivan’s challenge is then set to go to trial next week unless the complaint is withdrawn.
