Members of the Lee County Sheriff's Office said they have identified the victim who was found dead Feb. 5 at 8:24 a.m. in Lehigh Acres.
Investigators said the victim has been positively identified as Martin Eelman, a transient with a date or birth of July 3, 1961.
They said Eelman was found in a field behind Reliance Bank in Lehigh Acres.
Detectives have also made an arrest in the case. James Vaughan, a transient with a date of birth of Feb. 18, 1977. He has been arrested and charged with second degree murder.
On Feb. 5, at 8:24 a.m., the LCSO received a call for public assistance. The incident occurred near the intersection 2499 Lee Boulevard, a remote area of Lehigh. Deputies and Lehigh Acres Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the vicinity.
Approximately 15 minutes after arrival, deputies located the body in a wooded area. Paramedics pronounced Eelman deceased and deputies secured the scene.
Due to the limited visibility, a perimeter was established to prevent disturbing any potential indicators of what transpired or potential evidence if a crime occurred, investigators said.
Detectives with the Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit were assigned to investigate. They could not confirm the extent or type of injury sustained by Eelman last week.
