The General Woman's Club of Lehigh Acres puts on one of the community's highlights in the spring when it holds its annual luncheon and fashion show. A longtime favorite in Lehigh, this year's luncheon and fashion show - being called Rainbow of Fashions - will be held March 29 at the Colonial Country Club, just outside of Lehigh on Colonial Blvd. The place was chosen because it can hold a large crowd and each year that a fashion show is held, the crowds get larger.
"These fashion shows are important to us," said Reba Money, one of the chairwomen of the committee preparing the show. "The reason is because we raise money to hand out scholarships to Lehigh's single moms and dad with minor children who are trying to get or finish a college education. Presentation of such scholarships will come in a May luncheon held in Lehigh," she said.
The fashion show and luncheon on March 29 will feature all of the latest fashions from Anthony's of Fort Myers and several of the club's members are going to model in the show while the fashions are narrated by Debra Ruff, manager of Anthony's, which is located in the College parkway Shopping Center in Fort Myers.

The General Woman's Club is one of the oldest organizations in Lehigh, beginning some 50 years ago. It has always been a popular event, one of the highlights in Lehigh during the spring.
Last year, the club handed out seven $500 scholarships to moms and dads in Lehigh who want to get a college degree. It is one of the largest groups ever awarded such scholarships, Money said.
"This is our major fund-raising event of the year and tickets sell out fast," she said. Helping Money out on the committee to plan the luncheon and fashion show are Diane Lashua, Barbara Fusco and Susan Thompson.
The General Woman's Club meets May through September at 1 p.m. on the third Friday of each month at Faith Lutheran Church on Leeland Heights Blvd. Membership dues are $20 a year and the club is always interested in welcoming new members, Money said.
For those who want to purchase their tickets now for the fashion show and luncheon on March 25, calls can be made to 412-708-0422 to Dian Lashua. You can also call Susan Thompson at 239-369-4807 to reserve tickets.
Money said those who want to attend should not wait to call for tickets.
At last year's luncheon and fashion show, more than 150 women showed up and planners this year are planning for at least 200 guests, Money said.
President of the club is Norman Jonson and vice president is Betty Nottling.
Money said models will walk throughout the crowd to show the latest fashions. So attendees can see them up close.
There will also be a 50/50 raffle and prizes.
