East County Regional Library presents February programs

The roster of activities at East County Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following programs are free and open to the public:

Adults

– Chess, Anyone?

4 p.m. Feb. 24

Rise to the challenge and join the fun. Chess enthusiasts of all ages are welcome. Bring a personal chess set or use the library’s.

– English Cafe

6 p.m. Feb. 24

10 a.m. Feb. 21 and 28

Practice English with English Cafe, a free, conversation session for adult ESOL and ESL students. Each 90-minute session provides adult learners an opportunity to practice speaking English with native speakers. Participants may start at any time. Advanced registration is not necessary.

– Book Page Wreath

6 p.m. Feb. 25

Create a wreath for any holiday or special event using book pages. All supplies are included just bring your creativity. Space is limited to 10. Registration is required.

Family

– Toddler Storytime

10 a.m. Feb. 19

10 a.m. Feb. 20

Children 2 years old and their caregivers participate in song, fingerplays and short stories. The success of this age group depends on adult participation and encouragement. Toddler storytime lasts approximately 30 minutes.

– Bilingual Storytime

10:30 a.m. Feb. 28

This program is for children 2 years old and their caregivers and last approximately 30 minutes.

Children

– Preschool Storytime

10:30 a.m. Feb. 19

10:30 a.m. Feb. 20

Preschoolers (ages 3 to 5) attend this storytime independently while parents or caregivers wait nearby in the library building. This storytime includes activities that require more participation and a longer attention span. Each preschool storytime lasts about 30 minutes.

– Kids Read Down Fines

3-4 p.m. Feb. 22

4:30-5:30 p.m. Feb. 26

Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading, during the allotted time. A total of $8 per day may be earned. For ages 18 and younger. Coupons may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only. Bring your library card with you. Your library card or library card number is required in order to access your account.

Teens

– TeenReads Bagels and Book Club: Copper Sun

2 p.m. Feb. 19

Teens are invited to celebrate Black History Month and meet with other teens to share and discuss Sharon Draper’s Copper Sun, the story of two 15-year-old girls, one a slave and the other an indentured servant, who escape their Carolina plantation and try to make their way to a slave sanctuary in Florida. Snacks will be provided. Registration is required.

– Kids Read Down Fines

3-4 p.m. Feb. 22

4:30-5:30 p.m. Feb. 26
