Lee County Sheriff's Office detectives with the Traffic Homicide Unit have arrested the man that they say is responsible for killing two people in a November car crash in Lehigh Acres.
They arrested and charged Remijio Saldana Perez, 55, of 953 Eisenhower Blvd., Apt. B, at his home on Feb. 17.
The investigation shows Perez was driving a pickup truck while intoxicated when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Columbus Boulevard and SR 82, investigators said.
The pickup struck a SUV traveling westbound on SR82, causing the SUV to cross all lanes of the road before flipping upside down and landing in a drainage canal full of water.
According to investigators, both occupants of the SUV died at the scene.
They said the investigation showed Perez was traveling 36 mph when he failed to stop and struck the SUV.
He has been charged with two counts of DUI manslaughter, DUI over .15 reading and DUI property damage.
According to detectives, they said good Samaritans stopped and helped the victims of the crash.
The occupants of the 2006 Honda SUV have been identified as Charles David Bader, of Venice, the driver, and front seat passenger Michael Nicholas Katyryniuk, of Tellico Plains, Tenn.
Both Bader and Katyryniuk were pronounced dead at the scene by responding paramedics.
