Food training class

A food managers certification class will be offered April 14 starting at 9 a.m. at the Lee County Parks and Recreation-UF/IFAS Lee County Extension, at 3410 Palm Beach Blvd. in Fort Myers.

The course is a comprehensive food-handler training that includes the current regulations to assist in taking the ServSafe Manager's Exam, which is offered through the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation.

Following the class, the exam will be held at 2 p.m. The national certification is valid for five years.

The cost is $110 for the class and exam or $165 for the class, exam and textbook.

New option for public records requests

Lee County is making it even easier to submit and monitor the status of public records requests with a new online portal option.

Visit the Lee County Board of County Commissioners Public Records Request Center to search frequently asked questions, submit a request online and monitor the status of your request.

It is free to create an account with an e-mail address. If you prefer submitting requests via phone, mail, fax, e-mail or in person, those methods still are available.

Rib City marks 25 years

Rib City is celebrating 25 years of operation in 2014.

Founded in Fort Myers in 1989, Rib City is a family-owned national barbecue chain.

There are currently 12 corporate restaurants in the state of Florida, with 10 locations in Southwest Florida and 14 franchise restaurants across the country.

Airport reports on January traffic

During January, 778,163 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport, an increase of 3 percent compared to January 2013.

The traffic leader was Delta with 167,165 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Southwest (130,659), JetBlue (83,484), Spirit Airlines (75,525) and US Airways (73,344).

The airport had 7,857 aircraft movements - takeoffs and landings - a decrease of 5.9 percent compared to January 2013. Page Field saw 8,088 movements, a 2.2 percent increase.

More than 2.8 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in January 2013, a decrease of 4.8 percent compared to January 2013.

The airport served more than 7.6 million passengers in 2013 and is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic.
