By MEL TOADVINE (mtoadvine@breezenewspapers.com) , Lehigh Acres Citizen

The Lehigh Acres Spring Festival begins its 9-day of festivities Friday night, March 14, at 6 p.m. at Veterans Park with opening ceremonies. Following the events of the night, the festival will continue for the next eight days, concluding on Saturday, March 22 with a big parade down Homestead Road.

Judy Carter and others on the Spring Festival Committee are sure this will be the largest ever festival in Lehigh with additional attractions not seen in previous years.

And entertainment throughout the festival is "you got to see attractions," says Carter.

On March 22, the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show will host multiple shows.

New this year will be the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show which will be holding multiple performances. This year marks 33 years with their lumberjack show in the family entertainment industry, Miller said.

Their action packed show features rolling, log rolling dogs, chopping, sawing, axe throwing, and tree climbing, all with world champion lumberjacks.

"The show is historical, educational and humorous, plus it's filled with audience participation," said Stephenson, who noted that the lumberjacks were here 14 years ago.

Those putting on the Lehigh Festival say this is the 40th year and they are calling it Lehigh's Southern Fried Chicken Festival.

Thousands are expected to attend the show's 8-day festival with the largest crowds on Saturday, March 22 when thousands line the streets of Homestead Road and the party moves to Veterans Park.

"People won't want to miss this year's festival. The Baby/Toddler, Prince/Princess, and Junior Miss/Queens Pageants will be held on Sunday, March 16.

Carter urges everyone to get their apron on and get involved in the Spring Festival BBQ Cook Off Contest. It is for all local amateur "pigmasters." It is set for Saturday, March 15. She said registration begins at 9 a.m. in the contest tent with the cooking to begin at 10 a.m.

"Get your shoes out, horseshoes that is," said Carter as she noted that the annual Horseshoe Tournament is featuring two-men teams participating in what looks to be the best tournament ever.

Andy Reisinger, president of the Lehigh Spring Festival and the chairman of the parade, said that their team is always working hard to bring new additions and changes to the festival, to make it more fun, exciting and entertaining year after year.

"With our 40th anniversary of the Lehigh Spring Festival, we are presenting to you the first annual Spring Festival Car, Truck and Bike Show," Reisinger said.

From vintage classics and iconic muscle cars to modern sport cars; from historic pickup trucks to modern "monster trucks" from vintage motorcycles to modern "hogs" and fast sport bikes, it's all part of the festival event.

Reisinger said the show will be held on Saturday, March 15 from 2 to 6 p.m.

He said that the festival planning committee is continuing its traditional plan to bring all the shows, entertainment and activities free of charge to the public, thanks to the many sponsors.

Also new this year to the festival is a local talent show being called "Lehigh's Got Talent."
