George L. Doubek, 98, of Lehigh Acres, died Thursday, March 6, 2014. He was born March 10, 1915, in Menominee, Mich.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces from October 1941 to June 1945 during World War II in Europe and the United States.
He married Rita Doubek on Oct. 25, 1941, in Cleveland, Ohio.
For two years they resided in Jamestown, N.Y., then moved in 1949 to Randolph, N.Y., where they raised five children.
Retiring in 1980, they moved to Fort Myers and then to Lehigh Acres in 2007.
He is survived by his daughters, Rosanne Hale and Felicity (Jerry) McAlister; sons, Anthony (Paulette), James (Sharon) and Matthew (Susan) Doubek; John Hale, Michelle Plummer, David Nyman, Susanne Burdic, Andrea, Stephanie, Michael, Andrew, Sean, William, Ivana and Cassondra Doubek; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several step great-grandchildren and step great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita; parents; two sisters; and four brothers.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
