Program receives $2,000 grant

UF/IFAS Lee County Extension announces that the Grow A Gardener program has been selected to receive a $2,000 grant from Darden Restaurants Foundation.

The Restaurant Community Grants program, now in its third year, empowers each restaurant in the Darden family to help award a $1,000 grant to support local community programs.

The donation will enable the Grow A Gardener program to educate participants on edible gardening in Southwest Florida. Instructors are Lee County Master Gardeners trained by UF/IFAS.

The eight-session program covers soil, composting, seeds, water, worms, fertilizers, plant parts, propagation, insects, and vegetable ID.

Beneficiaries of the program are anyone ages 8 and up.
