Caloosahatchee park programs

– Guided Nature Walk: April 5 from 9-11 a.m.

Join park staff on a stroll through natural plant communities. See firsthand the plants and animals that make Southwest Florida so unique. Participants should be able to walk approximately one and a half miles. Dress appropriately and bring a water bottle. Meet at the main entrance of the park, at 18500 N. River Road. Free with paid parking. Limit 25 participants. Children must be accompanied by an adult. For information, call (239) 694-0398.

– Pollution Police Preschool Program (ages 3-6): April 9

We will read a story, play a game, go on a un-nature hike and make a craft out of reusable items to take home. Meet at the main entrance of the park, at 18500 N. River Road. Cost is $5 per preschooler. A parking fee is required. Register online at: www.LeeParks.org or by calling (239) 533-7440.

– Cypress Creek Kayak Tour: April 10 from 9-11 a.m.

This slow-paced paddle is great for all experience levels. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All kayaking equipment is provided. Bring your own drink, sunscreen, binoculars, clothing and shoes that can get wet. Meet at the campground entrance of Caloosahatchee Regional Park, at 19130 N. River Road. Cost is $25 per person. – Ethnobotany Home School Program: April 17 from 2-4 p.m.

Home school students will learn how the Calusas used native plants that grow in Southwest Florida. We will go on a hike to find wild edibles, and make a craft using natural materials. Meet at the main entrance of the park, at 18500 N. River Road. Age requirements and price varies for each home school program. A parking fee is required. – Oxbow Kayak Clinic: April 22 from 9-11 a.m.

This class will introduce you to the basic techniques of paddling and then you will have the opportunity to use your new skills for a guided trip. We will paddle the beautiful oxbow islands of the Caloosahatchee River for a two-hour guided and informational tour. Be prepared to experience nature at its best. The tour is perfect for all ages and abilities. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All kayaking equipment is provided. Bring your own drink, sunscreen, binoculars, clothing and shoes that can get wet. Meet at the campground entrance, at 19130 N. River Road. Cost is $25 per person. Registration is required. – Caloosahatchee to Hickey’s Creek Kayak Trip: April 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This six-hour kayak trip begins and ends at Caloosahatchee Regional Park campground. Paddlers should be experienced and/or be in good physical condition for a five-mile roundtrip paddle on the Great Calusa Blueway, which includes Hickey’s Creek. Eat lunch and hike at Hickey’s Creek Mitigation Park before paddling back. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Kayaking equipment is provided. Bring a drink, lunch, sunscreen, binoculars, clothing and shoes that can get wet. Meet at the campground entrance, at 19130 N. River Road. Cost is $40 per person. Registration is required. The park features 768 acres of pine flatwoods, scrub oak, cypress swamps and oak hammocks. Crossing through them, you will find more than 18 miles of hiking, mountain biking and equestrian trails.

Primitive camp sites for families and groups are available, along with equestrian sites for people with horses. Kayaking and fishing are available along the banks of the Caloosahatchee River.
