East County Regional Library presents March programs

The roster of activities at East County Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

Adults

- Chess Anyone?

4 p.m. March 24 and 31

Rise to the chess challenge and join the fun. Chess enthusiasts of all ages are welcome. Bring your own chess set or use one of ours. Sponsored by the Friends of East County Regional Library.

- English Cafe

6 p.m. March 24 and 31

10 a.m. March 21 and 28

Practice your English with English Cafe, a free, conversation session for adult ESOL and ESL students. Each 90-minute session provides adult learners an opportunity to practice speaking English with native speakers. Participants may start at any time. Advanced registration is not necessary.

- Tin Lizzies and the Royal Can Opener

10 a.m. March 22

With the advent of the Model T- or the "Tin Lizzie" - America's love affair with the road trip was born. Starting in the 1920s, everyday citizens could explore Florida's out-of-the-way sites and scenery. Come and learn how tin cans and Royal Can Openers helped to shape the Florida we know today. Presented by the Florida Public Archaeology Network. Registration is required.

- Decorative Glass Votives

6 p.m. March 25

Paint a beautiful glass votive and decorate with beads. All supplies included. Sponsored by the Friends of the East County Regional Library. Space is limited to 10. Registration is required.

Family

- Bilingual Storytime

10:30 a.m. March 21

This program is for children 2 years old and their caregivers and last approximately 30 minutes.

- Family Storytime

6:30 p.m. March 25

This program is for the whole family and lasts about 30 minutes.

- Toddler Storytime

10 a.m. March 26

10 a.m. March 27

Children 2 years old and their caregivers participate in song, fingerplays and short stories. The success of this age group depends on adult participation and encouragement. Toddler storytime lasts approximately 30 minutes.

Children

- "Bored" Games

March 17-22

Available during normal library operating hours: Monday Wednesday: 9 a.m. 8 p.m.; Thursday: 9 a.m. 6 p.m.; Friday, Saturday: 9 a.m. 5 p.m.

Take a Spring Break from boredom and play! Stop by the Youth Services desk to pick from any of the new board games that the library received for the last International Games Day.

- Kids Read Down Fines

4:30-5:30 p.m. March 19

3-4 p.m. March 22

Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading, during the allotted time. A total of $8 per day may be earned. For ages 18 and younger. Coupons may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only. Bring your library card with you. Your library card or library card number is required in order to access your account.

- Preschool Storytime

10:30 a.m. March 26

10:30 a.m. March 27

Preschoolers (ages 3 to 5) attend this storytime independently while parents or caregivers wait nearby in the library building. This storytime includes activities that require more participation and a longer attention span. Each preschool storytime lasts about 30 minutes.

- Chocolate Chip Cookie Excavation

2 p.m. March 29

Kids will use careful archaeology methods to interpret and excavate "artifacts" from a tasty archaeology "site." Presented by Melissa Timo of the Florida Public Archaeology Network.

Teens

- Teens: Get Your Game On!

2 p.m. March 24

Inviting all teens to visit the East County Regional Library to play Nintendo Wii and a variety of board games at this relaxed and fun for all program. Registration is not required but the program is limited to 25 participants.

The East County Regional Library is at 881 Gunnery Road.
