The "Your Neighborhood Shipping Store" located at 1121 Homestead Road in the Winn-Dixie Plaza, has been ranked 47th in busy and successful stores from a list of around 5,000 other UPS stores.

That means the local Lehigh store is in the top one percent across the country.

"We're really proud to have been told we are at the top," said Neil Vaughan. His wife nodded with a big smile.

"We try to do our best to help our customers in many ways," said Donna Vaughan.

Your neighborhood Shipping is owned by this friendly husband and wife team. They have been operating the store for the past six years. The store has been here probably for 30 years, they said.

"We ship anything anywhere and that includes all across the nation and overseas and that includes freight shipping with items that are very large," Neil said.

Customers, 50 to 100 on some days come and go with almost anything and everything they want to be shipped somewhere and Neil said he and his wife are happy to accommodate anyone who enters the store.

They provide the boxes at a nominal fee if the customer does not have a box and if the customer has not packed his or her own box, Vaughan and Donna are experts at packing.

"We have a very low breakage rate, even better than UPS," Neil said smiling, as a postal employee had entered the store to bring several big envelopes and boxes, not to be shipped, but to the put into rental boxes used by customers.

Last week, Neil had wrapped an entire exhaust system, including other auto parts that were to be shipped to North Carolina.

Once, they wrapped a Grandfather's Clock, that had been put built in the 1700s, to Canada.

"We've even had mattresses and antique furniture brought in for the us to prepare for shipping," Donna said.

And this time of the year, there are many northerners who come in with suitcases, boxes of other items, and have them shipped to their homes.

"When they go to the airport, they don't have to go through a hassle, just take a carry-on piece," Neil said. "It's ideal for people flying anywhere today with all the strict rules that apply to what a passenger can carry on an airplane. And the cost to ship your suitcases and other items is comparable to what the airlines now charge for baggage."

Your Neighborhood Shipping Store is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

"We will even pick up very large items at no charge," Neil said. "Especially elderly people who would have a difficult time getting large items to us."

The store doesn't just cater to customers who want to ship things. The long interior of Your Neighborhood Shipping Store has shelves of all types of interesting items, including gifts of all kinds, greeting cards, and children's books, to name a few.

"A lot of teachers come in and buy our children's books," Donna said.

The selection is large and the books are colorful and the prices are right, they said.

You can also buy stationery and shipping supplies, mail box rentals and forwarding gifts, cards, books and silk florals. They have a website at:

On the website, there is a place for reviews of their store. On one, Dredra C. of Lehigh wrote:

"I drop off packages here almost daily, and they are very polite people. I send a lot of packages and have never had an issue with their services. Very nice clean store and both owners are eager to help."

When asked what may have been the largest item ever shipping through them, Neil said it may be recently when he processed four monster tires for shipping.

"They had to go by freight due to their size and how heavy they were. Each tire was 150 pounds and when stood up atop each other, they were taller than me," he said. "But there have been so many large things.

"If you want to ship something anything just give us a call and we help you out," Neil said.

People should also know that we do everything the post office does, selling stamps, taking packages, etc.," Neil said.

They are also a Notary Public and they do copying and laminating, faxes and emails which can be sent from there and others received there.

"We're just very proud and we thank our customers for putting us at the top of the list of great shipping stores," Neil Vaughan said as another customer came in with a box to be shipped.

"It's that way all day long," he said.
