Samuel Randolph Meads, 83, of Lehigh Acres, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014, after a sudden illness.
He was born Oct. 15, 1930, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, the son of Mary Antoinette (Whedbee) and Marion Butler Meads.
He was blessed at birth with a vocation to spread the love of his Lord and Savior. He fulfilled this sacred calling reverently and energetically for over 55 years as a pastor at the Baptist Church.
His call to serve started in his hometown of Elizabeth City, but he also served the faithful in several communities during his years of ministry, including Roanoke, Virginia, Port Huron, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Warsaw, Indiana.
He loved the beauty God provided in nature and was an avid gardener. He was also one who appreciated athletic competition and throughout his life would always enjoy participating in or watching sports.
He leaves behind to cherish his loving memory, his wife of over 60 years, Dorothea Carolyn Meads; sons, Samuel Randolph Meads Jr. of Macomb, Michigan, Stephen Joel Meads of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Rick (Dawn) Meads of San Diego, California, and Terry Meads of Lehigh Acres; daughter, Lori (Rex) Durham of Lehigh Acres; and grandchildren, Andrew and Audrey Meads of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Matthew Meads of San Diego, California, and Samuel Meads III of Macomb, Michigan.
A celebration of life was conducted Saturday, April 26, 2014, in the Fountain of Life Church in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
